Incredible how our species was able to build the most amazing, comprehensive resource of all human knowledge and culture, freely accessible to all….
…and then willingly destroyed it in six months to make a handful of snake oil salesmen richer.
Last year, the Department of Interior orchestrated the killing of approximately 1,150 bison, a fifth of the entire Yellowstone population — the last wild herd in the world — to prevent them from roaming beyond the park and competing with ranchers.
This is a great example of how we tend to misunderstand "religion" as some "additional" program which was formerly placed atop our lives and which is now absent, leaving us with "secular" culture.
But the line between "religious" and "secular" life is basically a Western conceit
its very cool that youtube is the largest collection of video footage ever assembled and it's borderline impossible to search. rocking up to the library of alexandria and the guy keeps showing you the same three scrolls and standing in your way if you try to look at anything else
I could stare at this album cover forever. It looks so cool.
The album is 輪廻交響楽 by Geinoh Yamashirogumi, who apparently also made the Akira soundtrack.
For bigfoot stuff, Sasquatch: Legend Meets Science by Jeff Meldrum is an obvious one. But anything by John Green or John Bindernagel are good picks too.
I can’t pick favourites. But the first five books I thought of were On The Track Of Unknown Animals by Bernard Heuvelmans, Still In Search of Prehistoric Survivors by Karl Shuker, Strange Creatures Seldom Seen by John Warms, and Mystery Creatures Of China by David Xu.
Also I am not saying you’re not allowed to joke about Christianity or something, nor am I saying Christians are bad or something. The joke is funny. I just have noticed this odd trend with wording.
I’m not religious, but wouldn’t the joke make more sense if you said Christianity? Specifying Catholicism implies they’re the only sect that uses the cross symbol. I’ve noticed that if people my age joke about Christianity, they often say Catholicism specifically for some reason.
The concept of warding off vampires with crosses is so interesting to me. I wonder if it applies to any other religion or if they're allergic to just catholicism
