🥼 What is Pulse?

Pulse is a privacy exchange built on Midnight.

Unlike traditional on-chain exchanges, Pulse is designed so your balances and trading activity are private by default.

That means other users can't simply open a block explorer and see your positions, balances, deposits, withdrawals or trading history.

💻 How does the privacy work?

On most blockchains, your wallet balance is stored publicly for anyone to inspect.

Pulse works differently.

Instead of publishing your balances, the blockchain stores encrypted commitments that prove your funds exist without revealing what's inside them.

When you trade, your previous private balance is consumed and replaced with new private balances that reflect your updated holdings.

The network verifies that everything is valid using Zero Knowledge cryptography, without revealing who owns the balances or what they contain.

The result is a trading experience where your financial activity remains private while still benefiting from the security of a public blockchain.

📲 Why do I connect with a Cardano wallet?

Native Midnight wallets aren't ready yet.

Rather than asking everyone to wait, we've integrated with existing Cardano wallets so anyone can begin using Pulse immediately.

Your Cardano wallet is simply used to authenticate and authorize your actions.

Your private balances themselves live on Midnight.

Think of your Cardano wallet as your login key, while Midnight provides the private infrastructure behind the scenes.

As native Midnight wallets become available, support can naturally expand to them as well.

🏦 Is anything centralized today?

For this initial launch, yes.

Because the Midnight wallet ecosystem is still in its early stages, the encrypted private balance information is currently managed through the Pulse interface rather than a native Midnight wallet.

Of course, the blockchain still verifies every transaction.

Pulse cannot create balances, spend your assets, or bypass the protocol's rules.

As the Midnight ecosystem matures, more of this functionality can move directly into users' wallets.

We believe people shouldn't have to wait for an entire wallet ecosystem before experiencing private DeFi.

Launching next week allows anyone with a Cardano wallet to access Midnight-powered privacy IMMEDIATELY.

And this is just the beginning.
