Terra users can always exchange 1 UST = $1 LUNA, and this is what keeps the peg

UST < $1 means it's worth to exchange to LUNA to sell it. Unprecedented depeg event and extreme fear cause massive mint and selloff of LUNA

@RedDrag29983011 @TLunaRecovery It work both ways, if UST depeg due to over valued it will burn LUNA coins to mint UST, making everyone's LUNA worth more. That's why the prospect of HODL LUNA and promote UST project comes in.

This mechanism simply fails on major depegging and major loss of LUNA market value.

That time the supply was only 400M. Some incident caused UST to depeg for a long while, people lost confidence and mint LUNA to exit. This does not cause UST to repeg, and the panic cycle continued until what you see today
