[NEWS] Import tariffs on Japanese vehicles just raised the stakes for U.S. car buyers:

As part of a new trade deal, Japan’s vehicle tariffs are set at 15%, a firm number after months of uncertainty.

According to Dave Thomas at CDK Global—

That means immediate, lasting price hikes.

Like $50 here, $100 there, and hundreds added to mid- and high-end trims.

- Beyond that, base models will try to stay affordable, but luxury trims will take the hit.
- New launches like the Toyota RAV4 and Subaru Outback will debut with higher sticker prices.

For now, dealers have a window to move pre-tariff inventory, but long term, affordability will depend heavily on what happens with Mexico and Canada.
