The Merge will enable layer 2 solutions to leverage Ethereum's network through Sharding. Sharding splits the network into smaller partitions and allows shard chains to provide cheaper, storage layers for applications, resulting in faster transactions and lower fees to end users.
What is The ETH Merge?
Ethereum is currently on the Proof of work protocol. Over the next year, proof-of-work will be phased out in favor of Proof-of-stake (PoS). The transition to proof-of-stake will also phase out mining from Ethereum. This switch has been coined as the merge.
There will always be fluctuations in validators going offline, but I don’t see them going anywhere, especially when you consider the last block to be mined is around 2140. The BTC network is just too strong.🥇
