Someone asked us a great question on an X Space about where NOiSE currently sits in the IP conversation.

First and foremost, we are huge supporters of independent musicians, vocalists, singers or artists.

Secondly, there are two parts to NOiSE:

1. NOiSE Lineage Protocol: Solana infrastructure for creative lineage and attribution. Will become open-source at the right time.
2. NOiSE Music Platform: the first implementation of that protocol.

NOiSE isn’t starting as an IP rights or licensing platform out of the gate. That’s also very intentional.

IP ownership gets complex quickly aka contracts, labels, publishers, samples and jurisdictions can all affect who owns what.

The Lineage Protocol starts one layer beneath that:

Who created what? Who contributed? What came from what? What combined into what?

Creators can collaborate, establish attribution and negotiate splits on NOiSE. The important distinction is that NOiSE provides infrastructure for creators to establish and coordinate those relationships ; the protocol itself does not unilaterally determine legal ownership.

Think of version-control systems preserving the history and relationships between contributions. NOiSE brings that concept to music.

That visible lineage creates a stronger foundation for splits, contracts, licensing and rights.

As the network matures, deeper IP and licensing tools can be built on top of or integrated. Aka, we are thinking about this deeply.

TL;DR: Record the creative relationship first. Let legal and commercial relationships build on top.
