@pabschabs I think it's hard to be considered amongst the best when the movement (the part that makes a watch a watch) wasn't even made by them for most of their existence.

@pabschabs For example, Rolex didn't even make their own movements in house until 2004, and only then it did so by buying out Aegler who made them.

@pabschabs In short; a bunch of watch snobs. But otherwise, mostly heritage and of course the watchmaking itself. Rolex isn't bad by any measure, but it's esteemed position is largely a result of clever marketing and becoming synonymous with success.
