I genuinely want to start a conversation about something: why is “the greatest songwriter of our generation” such a settled title when the actual global conversation around songwriting feels so painfully narrow?

People will endlessly debate Taylor Swift, but RM, SUGA and j-hope are three of the most prolific, versatile and consistently fascinating songwriters working in mainstream music today and I don't think their work is given anywhere near the same critical consideration.

And before anyone starts: this isn't me saying the other BTS members aren't talented songwriters. This is specifically about three artists whose songwriting has been central to their artistry for over a decade.

But I genuinely think RM, SUGA and j-hope belong in the conversation for the defining songwriters of this generation. And if you disagree, let's actually debate it: who do you think belongs there, and why?
