I'm an advocate for CS education who loves to explore the new and innovative in computing. Getting my students excited about the possibilities is my goal.
STEAM lab is getting pumped about finishing their prototypes as part of our exploration of the design process! With the help of the @birdbraintech Hummingbird Bitd
Check out this 6th grader describe how his Edison robot would work! Fun working with measurement in Mrs. Kalnasy’s science class! Building resilience and problem solving skills!
What connections can we make between programming and multiplication? Getting started with working through showing our thinking and then dabbling with some loops! Mrs. Andrew’s learners were busy thinking and problem solving this afternoon.
“Wait… this is like we’re doing math.” Digging into patterns without even realizing it as we built and programmed @LEGOEDUCATION Essentials cars that lit up in Mrs. Meng’s room. What do we notice? What ways can we make patterns? What about patterns inside of patterns?
Mrs. Meng’s classes went further today. Making predictions. Thinking about patterns. Exploring variables and how data can be collected and graphed with technology! So many connections to other content areas!
Mr. Chrosniak was digging into 3D design in Tinkercad with a whole group of learners today! They were huddled up learning how to add doors and windows to their designs! Some brains were really being stretched as they grouped items in 3D!
Hmmmm… learning more about the Hummingbird Bit after school with Mrs. Drobnak and a few other teachers today! Can we build a series circuit? Parallel? What else do we need to know? Explore? Learning together!
Poetry and coding? You bet! Third graders is Mrs. Andrews’ class have been talking about the elements of poetry. They then used coding to add animation and visuals to a poem so it matched the mood and subject of the poem.
Did you know we have a Creative Coding class at NOHS? Today the students used MIT App inventor to code a video game! The students had to program the visual aspects, functions and notifications that are included in a typical game. They then had to test their game for accuracy.
We spotted some sphero robots at the middle school! Sixth graders were programming the robot to move and stop at a certain distance. This was part of their lesson about fractions and decimals! https://t.co/iVU3nrAKhh
First graders in Mrs. Howe’s class at Maple were busy thinking about building programs and talking about how to represent their program with symbols! Next week they’ll use what they learned to launch into writing! #CSEdWeek
Third graders at Chestnut explored how they might tell stories with the programs that they build for Indi! So many different problems and resolutions proposed. Next week they’ll continue to apply what they have learned about story structure to to create their stories! #CSEdWeek
