This article is spot on, but there’s one other reason why Messi hate has spread like wildfire this World Cup:
~15 years ago with the GOAT debate at its peak, hundreds of millions of young fans worldwide picked CR7 as their idol while he and Messi went band for band.
And the battle was legendary.
But for the past decade, Ronaldo fans have watched their GOAT slowly decline while an aging Messi remained on top of the world, surpassing Ronaldo on individual awards and lifting the game’s most prestigious trophy, which Ronaldo could never get near.
Ronaldo’s millions of supporters now roam social media like a leaderless army who has lost the war.
With the debate on the pitch settled and Ronaldo’s legacy capped, his fans desperately undermine Messi’s achievements in a futile attempt to close the ever-widening gap between stars.
And I don’t blame them.
But that is why, as football fans everywhere enjoy the glittering sunset of Messi’s unparalleled career, millions of Ronaldo diehards are reduced to complaints about referees and TikTok aura edits from 2017, while they watch a little boy from Rosario forever eclipse their childhood hero and take his rightful place as the greatest footballer to ever live.
It’s funny to me that the incels will celebrate Yamal and won’t acknowledge his grandmother broke all their gender scripts to help him get to where he is now.
I wanna take this moment to say to anyone who has grown a love for the sport over the last 2 months. I'm sure you've heard about competitions like Premier League, Champions League, even MLS
But honestly I implore you to explore further, because that's where you're gonna find the type of stories that made you fall in love with the sport to begin with.
One of my favorite stories is from Vegalta Sendai, a club in Japan whose fans overcame the tragedy of the 2011 tsunami and almost saw their team win the league just 2 seasons later.
Easiest ways to explore further? Deep dive on wikipedia with no destination in mind.
Now, if you're an annoying ass political larper like this person below. Don't even come back in 2030, no one wants you anywhere near the sport.
Tus lágrimas son las nuestras, Capitán 👑🇦🇷

¡Te amamos para siempre, Leo! 🩵🤍
@big_fact_hunt65@HITCSevens If you would have bothered reading my initial reply to the tweet it was calling out Alfie for being a snob to a country's National anthem and the way they sing it, when this "inferior" Argentina team booted England out of the World Cup. It was you who started the race war weirdo
@big_fact_hunt65@HITCSevens I am not from India and the point remains the same, England still has the same amount of trophies as Guatemala in the last 60 years. And congrats on the trophies England won for qualifying 🤣
@OverscoreWolf@bigpissshitfucj@fuggemindaboot@HITCSevens I didn't reply cos it was dragging on and none of us are going to agree with each other. And congrats on the World Cup Won before your existence and all the trophies England have got for qualifying.
@bigpissshitfucj@fuggemindaboot@HITCSevens Lol, no answer so you are now deflecting the question 🤣, both of our countries still have the same amount of World Cups in the last 60 years lol 😭
@F4STYAMAL Absolutely, but you'll still see retards fighting like monkeys with each other for no reason at all. Questioning each other's loyalty. Who tf cares, we win anyways if its Messi's 2nd or Barca boys win it.
