In 1976, Luigi Colani reimagined the humble VW Polo with his signature organic, aerodynamic design. 🌪️ Streamlined bodywork, aerodynamic wheels and an integrated add-on trunk transformed the little Volkswagen into a fascinating design experiment

Colani had a special connection with Münsterland
As a 17 year old near end of WW2 he came to Saerbeck as a flak helper
After graduating high school he returned to work as a harvest helper and during semester breaks in a grain distillery
Saerbeck is 40km away from Harkotten Castle

The 1998 Colani Dodge Viper, developed with Autohaus GETRA GmbH, Köln. The design was developed at Colani’s Gut Maarhausen studio, it featured his distinctive “Chin Wing” (Alula Spuria) an aerodynamic idea inspired by the alula of birds. Apparently only 3 or 4 examples were built
A new Berlin plaque marks Luigi Colani’s childhood home. From Berlin garage beginnings in 1958 to pioneering “Biodesign,” Colani challenged conventional ideas of form and function. A fitting tribute to a uniquely radical designer.

Before STROSEK became a name synonymous with radical Porsche design, there was Colani
In 1970, after his studies in Wuppertal, Vittorio Strosek began working as a freelance collaborator with Colani
A fascinating connection that helped shape a new generation of German auto design
