After yesterday’s Sikhism workshops & Bhangra dancing in a school in Nelson, today R–Yr4 children have been creating beautiful Rangolis — traditional patterns made during Diwali.

Happy Vaisakhi!

Vaisakhi (also called Baisakhi) is celebrated by Sikhs in Punjab & around the world.

It marks the day in 1699 when the Khalsa (a special Sikh community) was created. It’s a time to remember bravery, kindness, and standing up for what is right. 1/3

People celebrate by:
Singing and dancing (especially bhangra!)
Visiting the Gurdwara (Sikh place of worship)
Sharing food with others
Spending time with family and friends

It is also a harvest festival, which means it celebrates farmers gathering their crops 2/3

We celebrated Holi at school today with henna, a presentation, and a vibrant dance full of colour. The pupils were having so much fun… they made sure I didn’t stay colour-free for long.

Inspired by an assembly on Holi all the pupils (EYFS-Yr6) at a Bolton school had fun creating these beautiful pieces. Using various techniques, they brought together paints, vibrant pigments, & glitter to truly capture Hindu celebrations marking the start of spring.

Holi reminds us that no matter how different our colours are, together we create something beautiful.

Today Hindus (and their non Hindu friends) celebrate Holi - the beautiful Hindu festival of colours. It marks the arrival of spring and symbolizes the victory of good over evil — inspired by the story of Prahlad and Holika.

First time creating Rangoli with a triple-entry school, and I’ll admit—I was a bit apprehensive at first. But I needn’t have been! The focus, creativity, and care from the pupils were incredible, and the results speak for themselves. Beautiful work, Year 5 and Year 6!

On Diwali, people:
