Paul Skenes entered tonight sitting on 398 career strikeouts.
Then he punched out the first two hitters he faced and got to 400 just like that.
That made Skenes the first Pirates pitcher ever to record 400 strikeouts through his first 59 career starts, and one of only 20 pitchers in the modern era to do it.
He’s not just stacking strikeouts, either. He carried a 2.08 ERA through his first 58 career starts, which puts him in truly elite territory historically.
Just getting started.
