back in 2007 I was just getting my start in illustration, I was 18 and Kavinsky was a major inspiration of mine. for fun I painted this of his character and messaged him on myspace with the image and he posted it to his profile images, it meant the world to me, we kept in touch and eventually we started working together. We worked up a bunch of art for potential covers, talked a ton about music, he even helped me when I was trying to figure out how to put stuff together with my synthesizer.
We talked for years, then I got busier with life and we talked less and less but always kept in touch. Kavinsky always touched base with me, asked how I and my family has been doing and we had that back and forth between us for going on 20 years. I remember how happy I was for him when Drive came out and he blew up, it was so incredible to see one of my favorite artists become mainstream like that and watch the success grow.
I'll always appreciate his kindness and generosity, the time he gave me as a teenager still figuring out what I was doing. Love you man, rest in peace
So heartbreaking to hear the news. An inspiration to so many, including myself. I will continue to honor your name and your music. Rest easy Kavinsky ๐ซ๐ทโค๏ธ
