Shakea R. Miller turned setbacks into breakthroughs: after leaving college twice and navigating early challenges as a young mother, she built 1 on 1 Technical & Theological College in Phenix City, Alabama—becoming the first Black woman to found a degree-granting technical institution in the state when it launched in June 2024.
The school delivers hands-on training in healthcare, trades, cybersecurity, business, and theology, creating real opportunities for students in underserved communities. Today, she’s a business degree graduate, current law school student, and recipient of multiple honors, proof that determination can reshape what’s possible for Black excellence in education. 👏🏾

Born extremely premature at 30 weeks and 3 days, each weighing around two pounds, Gabriel, Ethanael, and Janelle Morency were given little chance of survival. Doctors even recommended reducing the pregnancy, but their mother, Martine Morency, stood firm in faith and determination.
Today, they stand together as proud graduates of Oakwood University, an HBCU in Huntsville, Alabama. Gabriel is pursuing trauma surgery, Ethanael a master’s in cybersecurity, and Janelle electrical engineering at Johns Hopkins.
This is real resilience and family strength. Their parents’ promise of faith-based education from childhood through college has been fulfilled.
Proud to see this level of excellence. Congratulations to the Morency triplets and their proud mom! 👏🏾

Daniel Nwaekwe just leveled all the way up.
This king finished #3 in his class at McKinney High School, dripping in honors (yellow stole, cords, sashes, medals) as he celebrates getting Princeton bound (accepted into THREE Ivies)!!!
He earned AP Scholar with Distinction, National Merit Commended, 17 AP classes, Black Student Union President, Mr. MHS, Distinguished Student Award, and building his own business (Starstruck World LLC) as a producer & audio engineer.
From the nonstop grind to the Ivy League stage… this is Black excellence in full motion.

After 13 years of marriage without children, DaShoan and Sofia Olds from Florida saw a local news story in 2017 about seven siblings in foster care who were at risk of being separated into multiple homes.
Instead of scrolling past, they stepped up and adopted all seven, reuniting the brothers and sisters under one roof. The adoption was finalized later that year.
No fairytales, just two people who turned compassion into commitment and built a real family. A powerful example of choosing family when it mattered most. ❤️

At just 18 years old, Makayla Nelson, this strong Black teen, has already survived cancer four times and today she proudly walked across the stage to graduate high school.
What an incredible journey of resilience and fight. She turned pain into power and showed the world what real strength looks like.

Sarah Simpkins, a remarkable Black woman from Chester, Virginia, earned her college degree at 102 years old from Brightpoint Community College in 2024, fulfilling a dream decades in the making.
She never gave up on learning, even after a century of life. Proof that it’s never too late to chase what sets your soul on fire. Absolute legend. 👏🏽👏🏽
She passed away peacefully in June 2024, just weeks after her graduation

Mikyah Tabb, a proud Spelman College graduate, just made a full-circle moment, she returned to her hometown of Richmond, Virginia as a teacher after earning a prestigious scholarship award.
From earning her degree at one of the nation’s top HBCUs to pouring back into the community that raised her on the south side of Richmond.

Catherine Spearman Ferrell, a beloved Black centenarian from Durham, North Carolina, is the state’s oldest living person at 113 years old.
Born on October 10, 1912, in Warsaw, NC, she has lived a remarkable life rooted in deep faith, family, education, and community service. She credits her strong faith as the secret to her longevity.
A true trailblazer and living legend , continued blessings! 🙏🏾💪🏾

Latriece Watkins has made history as the first Black woman to become President and CEO of Sam’s Club.
A longtime Walmart executive and Spelman College graduate, she officially stepped into the role in February 2026, leading one of America’s largest membership retailers.

Steffanie “T.C.B.” Rivers, a pioneering Black entrepreneur, made history as the first Black woman in Texas to register and launch a professional drone academy/technology company.
Through TCB Drones (and TCB Drones Academy) in Dallas, she trains students in drone piloting (FAA Part 107), aerial photography/videography, inspections, and business skills — empowering the next generation of pilots and creators, especially in underserved communities👏🏾

Antoinette Paris-Hudson made history as the third Black female captain at PSA Airlines — achieving the milestone at just 28 years old.
The talented pilot continues to inspire as she advances her career in commercial aviation.

Rebecca Inge, a 75-year-old grandmother from Raleigh, North Carolina, made history by graduating from Shaw University, fulfilling a dream she first started 57 years earlier in 1965.
After pausing her studies to raise a family and work at places like NASA and Disney World, she returned decades later (following her husband’s passing) to finally walk across the stage with the Class of 2022.
She proved it’s never too late to chase your goals and complete what you started.
