@nasen_org Which bit delights you the most? Children w/ SEND described as 'existential threat' to council finances? Assertion that no-one has behaved unreasonably up to now? Proposal to limit children's entitlement to support? Plan to remove legal redress? So many delights to choose from!
"When we begin having to ask for help, we turn to those who work in the system, whether that’s education, health or social care providers.. we’re offered leaflets, coffee mornings and lots of generic advice but nothing that gets to the heart of the challenges we’re facing."
@_LisaCherry Wow, incredible you could do that, I guess this time is bringing new insights and a pressure to keep changing the world for the better ! Love your podcast & looking forward to hearing / reading your new projects and wishing you all the best for your treatment.
The lack of consistent equal access to education has a detrimental impact on mental health outcomes of disabled and neurodivergent children and young people.
All children have the right to good quality education and we need to ensure our systems better support all young people.
@drphilhammond@wesstreeting@bmj_latest To listen , to the patients and the staff . Get a list of 5 top priorities from them and then that is your aim to work towards . Keep it simple , put the patient at the centre of every decision you make and try and be the best (insert title) you can be .
@drphilhammond@wesstreeting@bmj_latest It took Attlee & Bevan just 3 years to completely establish the NHS from scratch. Labour owe it to the country to be a hell of a lot more ambitious. The moment demands it.
@drphilhammond@wesstreeting@bmj_latest The NHS is underfunded, it's not broken. It's like saying a car that has run out of petrol is broken. It was working before the Tories underfunded it. Beware the "NHS is broken" mantra.
All policies affect our mental health.
As we head towards the general election, we need all political parties to put mental health at the heart of their manifesto commitments: focus on policies that will boost people's wellbeing & reject those that are harmful to mental health.
Bourdieu’s social capital theory is one way to understand social class. We can apply this to help contribute to our understanding of the impact class has on careers in clinical psychology.

In what moral universe can this be the right thing to do: the lower the life expectancy of a local area in 2010-12, the greater the cuts to government funding in the subsequent years. Was this a deliberate policy to increase health inequalities?
Amazing to finally see this out there in the world!
Proud to have been a part of developing it, and I look forward to continuing to being a part of the change ✊🏽
The solution to our mental health crisis isn't cutting disability payments, worsening the lives of the most vulnerable, but tacking social determinants & funding effective psycho-social interventions. We can't cut, medicate & diagnose our way out of this.

This is such an important concession from the government after initial resistance - we helped persuade by looking at models in Canada and Australia that mean victims of rape can receive confidential counselling whilst pursuing a prosecution
