The employer and the union have managed to negotiate an extension of deadline to allow more time to reach a settlement but remain far apart on key issues.
The new deadline is May 21st. Help us by sending a letter to the WSIB management https://t.co/Mh97Lrb2DL

One of the most effective strategies Toronto City Council can undertake to mitigate the impact of tariffs and economic uncertainty posed by the Trump administration, is to prioritize insourcing of municipal services.
We’re asking Toronto City Council to take decisive action to protect our economies and workforce, by keeping taxpayer dollars within local communities.
Insourcing municipal services ensures these funds remain in our communities, supporting local families, and stimulating economic growth that benefits residents.

Political staff are a vital link between residents & the @cityoftoronto. They work to serve the public & support elected officials. They deserve fairness & respect. Solidarity with political staff who organized their workplace—one step closer to joining @AMAPCEO! #Solidarity
1-2-3-4, We won’t take it anymore! 5-6-7-8, Organize, retaliate!
Another vibrant @cupelocal79 info picket at Masaryk-Cowan in Parkdale. Toronto city workers deserve better. Join the picket lines. Find info at: https://t.co/T81S6yJQfM

Interesting article has me wondering whether the @cityoftoronto & @MayorOliviaChow bargained with @cupelocal79 in good faith. Gut feeling is city wants savings from a work stoppage https://t.co/EcbX4XUZl8
‼️ ALL workers deserve wages that pay the bills. 1,000s of @cityoftoronto workers are only earning minimum wage.
✊🏿 A majority of @cupelocal79 members are women & racialized workers! Will they be forced to strike for #decentwork?
💡 Mayor @oliviachow has a real opportunity to lead by supporting at least $20/hr, equal pay & benefits for part-time workers, and wages for all that keep up with rising prices.

.@NasYadollahi talks to @am640 about negotiations with the @cityoftoronto and why the union had to request a No Board, signalling an impasse. https://t.co/6SYRvMK0yB
Yesterday, CUPE Local 79 held its first Picket Captain training, as we must prepare for the possibility that we will need to use our strongest tool: our collective power to withdraw our labour and push the City of Toronto to meet our reasonable contract demands.
Rebuilding our city requires investments in its workers. As Torontonians struggle with the cost of living and try to lift each other up, our members are already doing the work necessary to build community. Our statement on the Mayor’s proposed budget:

This morning, CUPE Local 79 members delivered 8,000+ petitions to Councillor Shelley Carroll at the final Budget Committee meeting.
Workers are calling for fair, inflation-adjusted wages, safe staffing levels & equity for part-time workers.
The 2025 City budget maintains service levels, but addressing a decade of austerity means means we need to invest more in City services. Read our 2025 Budget statement attached.
CUPE Local 79 stands in solidarity with @cupw against the federal government’s attack on workers’ rights. Back-to-work legislation undermines the right to strike & collective bargaining — rights protected under the Charter.
Despite Board of Health voting in Sept to protect these jobs, the positions of 33 harm reduction workers at The Works will have their positions deleted. President Nas Yadollahi is calling on the City of Toronto to rescind these notices & redeploy workers. https://t.co/4Kv5Y8F6W0
On December 6, 1989, 14 young women at Polytechnique Montréal were murdered in an act of violent misogyny that shook our country and led Parliament to designate December 6 as The National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.
On December 6, we remember them.
Raising the alarm over disturbing interrogation tactics used in @cityoftoronto workplace investigations. Workers subjected to hours-long interrogations where investigators yelled, tossed papers, and repeatedly questioned in a guilt-presumptive manner. https://t.co/OuqhNKl4LJ
