The art i create and collaborate on through Manamoon are produced from the ground up from the skills of the artists involved, and not just an imitation trying to cheat their way into a space we work hard to create for. Obviously as the consumer you have a right to choose the product you like, but if they are going to continue to use their business in this way its only right for us to call it out.

Heya guys! It's A.L, @KAINONAUT, @Misfortuneee, @SOZOMAIKA, @NSilvaArt, @CutTimeComic, @RosenSkye, @ianzhouart, and @calvinsims, here to open a dialogue about what goes on behind the scenes.

We've been working together as a team of friends sharing our love for art for some years now. It's been an incredible journey and joy to bring fresh ideas to the table that have inspired others to try their own takes on things! This is what we love to see as artists, everything comes from something, as they say. Art is meant to be shared and transformed!

However, there are some typical etiquettes about doing so that seem to be lost in translation within this smaller sub-community, primarily from the disconnect of businesses/brands hiring artists versus the products coming directly from the individual artist retaining their identity and royalties.

We feel after over a year of ignoring the elephant in the room, it seems to only have continued. And unfortunately, in a community where influencer loyalty comes in the form of kickback codes, many have turned a blind eye to these practices, and ultimately it affects the consumer who is paying a premium for merchandise with an assortment of stolen, AI, or ripped concepts with no kickback to the artists that illustrated and designed the works.

From A.L. and Niku (@NSilvaArt): This started at the very beginning of 2023, when I was sent a link to a product that immediately set off red flags.

I couldn't believe my eyes, but there it was on someone else's product page in full view: not even traced, but our art we worked on together, cut+paste onto another product with a green filter and slight paintover toss onto it. I attempted to reach out to this brand hoping this was not malicious, and perhaps they hired someone and didn't know what was delivered to them was stolen. After a few days of silence, I made a post showing the copies side-by-side, without naming who did it, as I just wanted them to take it down.

Fast forward across a year and change after confronting this entity and asking them to do better by the community and artists, and it seems the plot was still lost. But instead of 1:1 copying the homework, it's simply being altered slightly, and it's gotten to the point that over half their catalog is either stolen art from official sources, or ripped from our own catalog.

We do believe that there is so much to explore with remixes and inspirations from our favorite IPs, and we believe customers are owed an earnest effort in the designs they're purchasing. We are artists foremost and a brand secondary. "Mana Moon" is simply a platform for us to share our works and be paid our fair shares. Ask any one of us individually tagged here and you'll see the ways in which we have been allowed to breathe and feel treated fairly in an industry that often takes advantage of us.

Please, just hire artists and let them cook. Pay them fairly! Give them credit. There's plenty of room in this sphere to find success without compromising quality with quick cash shortcuts. We owe it to the community to be able to do this, and it's the least we can do in return to put thought and care into our illustrations and designs.
