Federal Minister for Law Azam Nazeer Tarar has stated that the government is strictly implementing an austerity policy to ensure financial discipline and reduce public expenditure. He said that under this initiative, significant reductions have been made in the privileges and facilities of federal ministers, including the restriction of the monthly petrol quota from 400 litres to 200 litres.
He further added that there is now minimal scope for additional privileges, and the government remains committed to reducing expenditure and ensuring the efficient use of national resources through continued austerity measures.

Federal Budget 2026–27 Presented in National Assembly
The federal budget for FY 2026–27, exceeding 18 trillion rupees, was presented in the National Assembly by Federal Minister for Finance Muhammad Aurangzeb.
He highlighted Pakistan’s recent achievements, stating that success in “Bunyan-e-Marsous” is a significant milestone and that the country’s defense capabilities are now globally recognized.
The Finance Minister said Pakistan’s economy has grown to 452 billion US dollars, with an increase in per capita income. He added that over the past two years, policy rates have declined, foreign exchange reserves have improved, and remittances have increased. Reserves have risen from 4 billion to over 17 billion dollars, sufficient for around three months of imports.
For the new fiscal year, 3 trillion rupees have been proposed for defense, 1,071 billion for civil administration, and 838 billion for the Benazir Income Support Programme. A 7 percent increase in salaries and pensions, along with a 10 percent rise in minimum wage, has also been proposed.
The budget also includes changes in tax slabs and proposals for reduction or elimination of super tax on certain sectors. Additionally, 3,675 billion rupees have been allocated for the development program.
The Finance Minister said the budget focuses on economic stability, growth, and public relief.
