Most writing advice focuses on vocabulary, punctuation or sentence structure.

They’re important.

But I’ve found the biggest improvement comes when children understand why they’re writing each sentence. 🧵👇🏻

6️⃣ Focus on what matters most

Not every word has equal value.

Strong writers know where to draw attention.

Instead of improving everything equally, we teach children to strengthen the moments that will have the greatest impact on the reader.

@bphillipsonMP Don’t claim the credit without acknowledging the reality in schools; we’ve improved outcomes while dealing with dwindling staffing, a SEND system that is chronically underfunded and teachers working unpaid after school to provide booster sessions. The achievement isn’t Labour’s.
