@SSHRC_CRSH Post-doc and instructor @CarletonSICS. PhD from @uOttawaEdu. Public pedagogies, sociohistorical spaces, and antiracism. (Opinions are my own)
Parked for 7 mins to buy a $2 coffee, came out to $130 parking ticket. Walked through @ByWardMarket_ , saw a delivery truck get a ticket WHILE unloading. There's still litter, addiction, and homelessness everywhere. @ottawacity, you gouge us, but our money goes....?! @danidmedia

April 1, 2024: N.L. is pretty unique in the fabric of Canada, but one researcher thinks we're going to have to put in some effort if we want to stay that way https://t.co/NcY7ByfGab
@CohenWilliam165 Hi Cohen,
While I appreciate you reaching out and would be happy to chat, to be honest, I'm a bit skeptical that you work with Porter. A picture of a Porter plane is nice, but your website isn't a Porter-affiliated link, and I bet you'd use a Porter Twitter handle for your job.
@porterairlines, I've always loved you, but your customer service has been awful today. My fiancée called to make a flight change, on hold for 1.5 hours and then got hung up on. Called back, been on hold for half an hour and still waiting. Do better!
Post-doc Interview #8
"The problem is there are too many labels. Everyone says they're 'this' or 'that' and they're dividing themselves. Just be kind to each other."
Where does kindness fit in antiracism? Is a "just be kind" approach just a "colour-blind" approach?

Post-doc Interview #7
Participant was told at 14 about her Métis relations:
“My grandmother was full-blooded Métis…my mother, she was what they would’ve called a half-breed.”
Thoughts? Does language of blood-quantum and identity fractions serve a purpose today?

Participant #6 explaining why it's not a surprise that an Indigenous man did well in job training.
“Raised in a white community. Has every advantage a white kid in this town does. He wasn’t raised on a reserve up north where they don’t even have cars.”
Umm, what??

Post-doc Interviews Excerpt #5
Asked if interviewee sees racism in their southern Ontario town.
“You know the reputation of racism in small-town Tennessee? Too many similarities in this town.”
When we use USA as comparison, do we miss complexities of racism in Canada?

#4
Small-town sports bar. Owner has picture up of friend who died. Picture doesn't i.d. friend or his job. Friend was police who shot an Indigenous man in a land claim stand-off.
Owner: “I’m not taking it down. He’s my friend.”
Is this a complex issue or just racism?

Social memory, racism & antiracism post-doc interview excerpt #4
My question: "how would you describe town?"
Interviewee response: “built on European roots…really a United Nations here”
Set aside Europe=UN idea, does UN perpetuate colonialism through nationalism?

Social memory, racism & antiracism post-doc interview excerpt #3:
"...colonization, which is a bad word these days..."
(How) should we engage colonization supporters/apologists?
Does decolonization require talking to pro-colonization ppl?

Post-doc study: small-town social memory, racism & antiracism
Interview participant on the one Indigenous family they recall from school:
“they were well accepted, especially because they were very athletic. They were respected. It was good.”
How would you respond?

Scenario:
Town of 7500. Rural surroundings. Most ppl seen as white. About 1/2 pop'n Mennonite.
Participant memory of community racism.
"The town is so racist that we created a way to be racist against other white people [against Mennonites]"
What do you see here?

Reading and really enjoying "HUGE" by @BrentButt, and can't help but read with Brent as the voice of Dale, @WeeMissBea as Rynn, and Jason Mantzoukas as Hobie. I challenge readers to NOT hear these voices now. You're welcome. It's a funny, tense, wild ride!
@danidmedia@OC_Transpo So sorry, @danidmedia. I would've been happy to chat, but didn't see your response to me tweet until after the time you mentioned. I hope your show went well.
@OC_Transpo, I've now had two busses just not show up. One at Rideau & one at Hurdman. And this happens often. People rely on transit to get to work, school, appointments...don't blame the train delay. They should have nothing to do with a bus running on time. Get it together!
