Future paramedicine students, have you seen our simulation ambulance? 🚑
This former emergency ambulance has been converted into a fully equipped, mobile simulation suite designed to give students real-world experience before clinical placements. Just like our on-campus clinics and hospital rooms, it plays a key role in preparing students to deliver care in complex, out-of-hospital settings.
Inside, you’ll find everything a paramedic needs: stretchers, stair-ready wheelchairs, patient lifting gear and clinical bags stocked with the essentials. Students learn to work with limited space and resources – just like they would on the job.
The ambulance is used in interprofessional scenarios with students from paramedicine, nursing, and midwifery, reflecting the teamwork that underpins modern healthcare.
Interested in becoming a paramedic? Learn more about our paramedicine course and how you can get hands-on training with our simulation ambulance: https://t.co/f8UfLMF705

🎉 Exciting news! The Liver Cancer Collaborative (LCC), co-directed by Curtin Professor Nina Tirnitz-Parker, has been awarded more than $7 million in funding—$4 million from the Cancer Research Trust and $3.8 million in partner support—to continue building one of the world’s most extensive tissue repositories for liver cancer and extend the second phase of the “Defeating Primary Liver Cancer” program for another four years.
LCC clinicians and scientists from Curtin and the Curtin Medical Research Institute, the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research, The University of Western Australia, the East, North and South Metropolitan Health Services, and PathWest are working together with the Perkins Cancer Biobank to collect samples of blood, healthy tissue, and cancer tissue from hundreds of participants across their cancer journey.
Primary liver cancer is responsible for a third of cancer-related deaths worldwide, behind only lung and stomach cancer. The average survival after diagnosis is just 12 months, and patients often present at an advanced stage when treatment options are limited.
The next four years of the Defeating Primary Liver Cancer program will focus on novel therapeutics, biomarkers, clinical translation, and emerging technologies as its key research streams.
Congratulations to Professor Tirnitz-Parker, the LCC, and everyone involved in this significant achievement! 🌟
L-R: Dr Louise Winteringham (LCC Program Manager), Professor Nina Tirnitz-Parker (Co-Director LCC), Clinical Associate Professor Michael Wallace (Clinical Lead) and Professor Peter Leedman (Co-Director LCC).

Flashback to 1976!
Back when Curtin was WAIT (Western Australian Institute of Technology), hands-on learning was already shaping the student experience.
By 1976, WAIT was booming:
🎓 11,316 students
👩🏫 1,487 staff
🎉 1,388 graduates
🌍 More international students and more women on campus than ever before
Tech leap: WAIT bought a DEC System-10 computer for $720,000 — the biggest in Australia — linking 200 users. Computer terminals jumped from 50 to 218, boosting research and administration.
6NR Radio: Launched in October 1976, WA’s first community radio station gave students and community groups hands-on broadcasting experience. It became Curtin FM in 2002.
Community impact: Students helped repair Lucy Creeth Hospital and ran the 1976 Charity Fair, raising funds for Telethon and a children’s hospital.
New courses: WAIT introduced degrees and diplomas in Applied Science, Arts, Education, Engineering, Nursing, and more — blending theory and practical skills, foundations of Curtin today.

New Curtin University research has delivered the strongest scientific evidence yet that people – not glaciers – transported Stonehenge’s famous bluestones to the ancient site.
The study challenges one of archaeology’s most enduring debates about how the Altar Stone and other rocks got to their current position and strengthens the case for deliberate human transport.

The Great WAIT Relay Race 🏃♀️🏃♂️✨
From the late 1970s through to the mid-1980s, staff and students at WAIT took part in an annual relay race around campus. Teams were made up of both staff and students, and it was all for a good cause – raising money for Telethon ❤️🎗️
Several staff members at the time were marathon runners, and their enthusiasm helped inspire others to join in. Whether you were a serious runner or there for fun, this event brought our community together in a big way. 💛
