I couldn’t put down Steve Cavanagh’s “Kill for Me, Kill for You”. I ended up reading it in one sitting! What a ride. The relentless twists and brilliantly planted clues kept catching me completely off guard. Built around the classic mystery “Strangers on a Train”, the novel by Patricia Highsmith that was famously adapted for the screen by Alfred Hitchcock, it delivers a kind of twist that’s distinct from the likes of Pierre Lemaitre or Jeffery Deaver, yet every bit as masterful. This author is the real deal. I can’t recommend it highly enough. To be honest, I hadn’t been familiar with Steve Cavanagh before this. I also missed “The Defence” when it was published in Japan back in 2015 under the title “Bengoshi no chi” (Blood of the Attorney) . I’ll definitely have to read that next. I really hope the rest of the Eddie Flynn series gets translated and published in Japan as well.

@theblaiirwitch I really enjoyed it. Good gothic horror film and anyone who doubted Mia Goths acting chops got a slap around the face. Incredibly nuanced performance.

Steve Martin’s classic “20 something-betters” scene in Roxanne turns 39 today, and it’s actually 26 something-betters.
He even slips in a straight Cyrano de Bergerac nod: “You must love the little birdies to give them this to perch on.” Pure brilliance from Martin.
@LostInFilm Watched Life is Beautiful for the first time recently. Being able to make a film in that style, with the context of what is happening, it’s an amazing piece of cinema.
Monica Bellucci faced backlash for being an older Bond girl at age 50.
Daniel Craig was asked about it and immediately shut down the interviewer:
“We’re talking about Monica Bellucci, for God’s sake. When someone like that wants to be Bond girl, you count yourself lucky!”
@fesshole My wife manages a nursery and she tried a similar tactic with me when our daughters went to nursery and had their various “firsts”. Just gave me a cheeky grin when I called her out on it.
