I watched Backrooms and thought it was an incredible movie. The biggest payoff for me personally was the inclusion of The Caretaker, since the core concept of the Backrooms is so heavily built upon the shoulders of James Leyland Kirby's exploration of memory degradation.
Aint no way the same chuds who choose to play as girls in every game with character customization are mad about God of War just because you play as a woman.
@NikTek@SynthPotato@tensedoc Honestly I think God of War with a lady could be really cool but I'm not interested in playing a game where the protagonist looks like they shop at Erewhon.
I genuinely dare you generative AI fuckers to look at my art and try to replicate it. You can't, because even most humans can't when they try. I draw this way because im retarded, and that's something you can never teach a machine to do even with all the resources in the world.
@poe_collector Its insane how many cases of this I have seen first hand at events like GDC where lots of talented young people attend the event seeking opportunities just to end up being preyed upon by some of the nastiest cat turd shaped men in existence.
If you live in Japan and are interested in possibly taking my place at my booth for Pixel Art Park, feel free to contact me. I'm more than willing to pay you a portion of my profits for helping me sell merchandise. I do want to be there myself though, so this is all pending.
Some good news!! I'll be attending @OpenSauceLive this year and will be showing off some neat projects at the @noisebridge booth. I also plan on TRYING to attend @pixelartpark this year but depending on how things go renewing my passport, I may have to booth remotely.
Also I would like to exercise some good faith here and state that I can totally see the thought process these engineers had when deciding to scrape art from the web. Like hey, fuck it, this is probably illegal but this tech is too cool to not just go for it, we can figure the rest out later. You need so much data to make these models work that it would be impossible to test their tools if they didn't scrape the web. So in a vacuum where they are just building and testing the tools, I can get why they decided to source art from the web in order to see if their models could produce industry standard artwork. My hang up here is that the next logical step in maintaining good will would be to then mass commission artists to create training data and to ask popular artists for permission to use their existing work. My main frustration with the gen AI situation isn't that it merely exists, I actually think it's some really wild tech and see the potential despite the fact I have zero desire to ever use it myself. My frustration stems from the fact this was one of the biggest opportunities to mass employ millions of artists with consistent work to build good tools, but instead they took the lazy route and decided to use everyone's work without their permission.
You yourself originally made the comparison between what gen AI does and what humans do when studying the masters, you are in fact claiming AI does what humans do. When training a model, the right thing to do is to use art that you have gotten permission to use rather than scraping the web and using a bunch of art without people's consent. Using someone's labor to create your own product without their consent is theft.
