Welcome to Stellarum As some of you already know, as part of acquiring Islands of Nyne (the game), we did not acquire the naming, lore, or socials tied to the game. This meant we had to start from scratch. After a few months of back and forth on naming, we ended up settling on Stellarum, which is a Latin word meaning "of the stars." This is mainly derived from our shift in lore. While we're keeping the Sci-Fi/Space/Futuristic setting, we're taking a different approach that's tied around human galactic expansion. I mention this because it means we will be redoing all artistic aspects of the game to create a more cohesive atmosphere around its setting. A big concern people have is the game's visual fidelity, worrying it wouldn't be competitive to modern titles. Don't worry, we acknowledge the need. Game Mechanics A solid foundation but far from a finished product, this has been the biggest area of focus in ongoing development, although there's still a lot to be done. The original design around mechanics was very much Counter-Strike in a battle royale, meaning hard to use weapons, slow movement, and lightning-fast TTK. We've been making tweaks daily to these elements to create a more well-rounded game that can be enjoyed by both competitive skill players and casuals. It'll always be divisive, and we'll always be willing to hear feedback and act upon it. The game is still a Battle Royale at heart; however, we will be taking steps to improve the original concept that has largely gone untouched for a decade. Unfortunately, due to the behavior of some studios in this industry, we have to keep specifics confidential for now. Art I'll keep this one short and sweet. Our two largest priorities here are pixel fidelity and visibility. It's important that a visible player is in fact visible, and as simple as that may sound, it's easier said than done, especially when the player could be 100m away and half-concealed behind cover. We streamlined our rendering approach to deliver lower-latency, high-fidelity visuals and have thus far been happy with the results. As for the highly requested art overhaul (Assets/Animations/etc.), we're looking to have this implemented in Q3 2025. Until then, we are utilizing the original game's offerings to provide us with a testing space. Economy In-game economies have often been one of my favorite parts of games, whether I was day trading TF2 skins, losing money in CS, or adding a bit of flair to my character in H1. I've always seen it as an important element for player expression and an additional layer to what a game has to offer. Because we are targeting a 13+ age demographic for our game, we currently have no plans to offer paid loot boxes or cases. Any gacha elements will be purely free to earn and free to open. I'm sure everyone is aware that over the last few years there has been a rise in attention around digital ownership methods. Our plan is to offer platform-specific systems so players can choose what suits them better as a gamer. When we launch our game on PC, we will be available on Steam where players will have their own enclosed ecosystem with no interaction or connection to any blockchain elements. Your items will be hosted through Steam, tradable on Steam, and marketable on Steam. Players on Epic will have their own ecosystem that utilizes the blockchain, with no interaction or connection to Steam. The in-game economy will operate through a shared but independent structure that acknowledges each platform but is not transferable between them. For clarity on how this looks, we intend to have our skins exist in collections rather than a timed rotation in and out of circulation like most games use. We are opting for a supply-based rotation, so when a certain number of items are sold, that collection is permanently retired and only accessible through peer-to-peer interactions. Sales from all collections contribute to the total cap, regardless of whether any sales occurred on a specific platform. This safeguards against potential changes to rules for interoperability in the future (currently, platforms don't typically like when users move purchased items from one platform to another). Testing We're expanding our private testing to more players. You can find the sign-up page in our FAQ in the discord. Legacy Claim We're offering original Islands of Nyne players a free gift! Your steam profile and game details have to be public in order for our automated process to work. This gift will be made available after the game launches. You can submit your claim here - https://t.co/Da8JliWJGo We believe games are meant to be played. They shouldn't require $4,000 PCs so that only a select few can play them. Our game design has been heavily influenced to offer accessibility to everyone, regardless of the hardware they have access to. A lot of thought and care has gone into the design and evolution of this game and we're excited to build alongside you.
