More than 1.5 million refugees from Ukraine have crossed into neighbouring countries in 10 days — the fastest growing refugee crisis in Europe since World War II.
At the Polish/Ukrainian border I was impressed by the outpouring of solidarity by communities through Poland in support of refugees: many volunteers in action, and piles of donations everywhere, all effectively organized by border guards and local authorities.
I thanked Prime Minister @MorawieckiM for Poland’s generous welcome to refugees from Ukraine, which I witnessed at the border yesterday.
We agreed on practical ways in which UNHCR and its partners can support the government’s response to the crisis.
