I have a cousin who we grew up together, and I've always treated him like a brother. His name was Chase. Whenever he needed help, I tried to be there for him.

Last year, I finally saved enough money to buy my first car. It wasn't expensive, but I was proud of it because I had worked hard to afford it.

One Friday evening, Chase visited my apartment. We ate, talked for a while, and he left later that night.

The next morning, I woke up and realized my car was gone.

I called him immediately, and he admitted he'd taken it. Apparently, he'd found my spare key while looking for something in my living room.

He said he needed the car to run an errand and planned to return it before I woke up.

I was angry that he'd taken it without asking, but I told him to bring it back.

When he returned that afternoon, there was a long scratch along the passenger door.

He apologized and promised to pay for the repairs. I wasn't happy, but I decided to give him a chance to make things right.

I had no idea that the scratch was about to become the least of my problems.
