@CoreenaSuares2 People with lack of awareness, greed for easy money and too much exposure on social media are becoming easy targets for these cyber criminals.
Do not sell your privacy, your old phone contains a lot of valuable information including your photos. Fraudsters can use this information to harass you and blackmail.
#Telangana- 4000 old phones- imagine what they would use it for ( don’t sell your old phones)
Cops statement- (Verbatim)
On 21st August 2024, Cyber Security Bureau personnel of Ramagundam CCPS, received credible information that few persons from Bihar were found moving suspiciously in the Power House Colony of Godavarikhani. They were trying to buy old mobile phones for use in cyber crimes, from people at low prices by offering either plastic items or money in exchange. Cops apprehended three persons and questioned. They identified themself as 1.Mohammad Shamim 2.Abdul Salam 3.Mohammad Iftikhar all are residents of Hathiya Diyara in Bihar. Three gunny bags containing approximately 4000 old mobile phones were found in their possession.
On further interrogation it is revealed that the above mentioned suspects have been purchasing old mobile phones from people at low prices with the intention of transporting them to Bihar since one month in Ramagundam and its neighbouring districts, where the acquired mobiles would be handed over their associate living in their village. Through the associate these mobile phones will be supplied to the Cyber fraudsters operating from Jamtara, Deoghar and other areas of Jharkhand state.
Their associate is said to repair these mobile phones by making repairs and changing software, and other components before selling them to cyber fraudsters. These cyber fraudsters use the repaired phones to carry out scams and share the fraudulently acquired money with their associate and the others involved.
Advise-
Therefore, the public is advised not to sell or give their old mobile phones to unknown individuals.
If the old phones are sold to unknown persons, there is every chance of using them in Cyber frauds and because of the device identity, the sellers are also suspected in the crimes. Hence public should be very cautious while selling their old phones.
