@MFaibis The next game can tie in more directly, because if they do what they did for Witcher 2/3 you’ll be able to import your save file
Anime/movies/comics/novels are immutable, so the choices are make V a vague legend, or canonized a version a piss a chunk of people off
My thoughts on this apply to Edgerunners, the upcoming live action movie, comics, books or spin off games:
V should NEVER be explicitly canonized as male, female or as having any specific characteristics.
V shouldn’t officially be a man, a woman, white, black, hispanic or asian.
V shouldn’t officially be straight or gay.
V shouldn’t officially be a street kid, a nomad or a corpo.
V shouldn’t officially be a netrunner, gunfighter or ninja.
V is the players’ character and whatever they choose to build the character into.
Referencing V, or events from the game in vague terms is fine, but it should be done in a way which doesn’t undermine any player’s experience with 2077.
If the character in that image IS supposed to be V, that was a mistake.
Why does the supplementary media need to tell the story of V?
Pretending a world with as many possibilities as Cyberpunk needs to be exclusively about one amorphous character who is killed or complete de-leveled in every ending is a spectacular misunderstanding of what this franchise is
@PatrickBowser2 Yep and that would involve restraint - it would be more rewarding to everyone who played the game, without a big obvious key jangle that makes players who hold our opinion to roll our eyes
It’s cowardly to commit to their own decision to make V a player the character creates?
I disagree, but it’s certainly lazy to say “this is the canon V because we want people who played the game once with a default model to soyface when they see CCTV footage of V fighting Adam Smasher in Edgerunners 3
@TheFogIsNearUs And yet… that argument falls apart if you consider that the base game and DLC used different V models
V’s face is whether the player decides it is - whether it’s either of the default models or a completely custom one
@NoobGoneBadX This is not only wrong because it asserts there IS a true canon, but Corpo is the one which makes the least sense by far.
I never understood how Corpo V was friends with the Jackie and it’s never explored.
It’s also by far, the shortest and most abrupt life path prologue
@ElB707 You definitely nailed MY canon, but even agreeing with your playthrough, I still think canonizing any route, even my route, would be a mistake and would substantially weaken players investment to engage in supplemental media
Sure, my argument is primary against the people posting or writing articles trying to assert that it is absolutely V, because that causes far more problems than it’d solve.
The only benefit would be so casual fans who used the default female V model can soy-face and pretend they chose the “correct” route.
I posit that ALL routes, all of our builds and all of our models are the correct ones
@Einherjar1312 Correct, but if you’re going to pare down references to the fixed events, why not also keep V’s appearance and gender anonymous?
That way supplementary media can be enjoyed by any player, in the context of any of their playthroughs, without feeling like an alternate timeline
We definitely have more pressing concerns, but grants for the arts have existed forever; so in a scenario where some of that money WILL be spent on games, buying one BioWare, means very little, if any of that money will go to where it should- funding small teams or solo developers with a good idea and a solid plan, who might end up contributing to the country if their projects take off.
Buying BioWare would be hundreds of millions of dollars, if not over a billion dollars, to buy a bunch of mediocre developers and two IPs which have been on life support for over a decade.
Saving a bloated AAA dev who make skinwalker entries of formerly beloved franchises, by giving tons of money to an American megacorp and its Saudi investors, would be far less patriotic and far more expensive than funding several new small Canadian dev teams who have fresh ideas
Saving a home-grown Canadian business from an evil American mega-corporation would be very patriotic, @Canada. The jobs of hard-working Edmontonians should not be jeopardised by an inept foreign company. Elbows up!
