Underdiscussed in the Red Card discourse with Americans is how for most of America's popular sports, a suspension is a rare and extreme event, even more so for something done on the field. In international soccer, it is a regular occurrence and accepted part of the game.

To the OP's point:
"It's unfair that we had to play our opponent at full strength" is not something said in America.

The arrogance is insane. The U.S. has never won a major international trophy outside CONCACAF, yet somehow we’re supposed to believe Belgium is sitting there terrified of them? Please.

If all you saw was internationals reactions to the ruling you’d think FIFA added a rule that the US gets to play with two goalkeepers on the pitch, not that they get to play with their normal lineup.

A huge cultural difference between international soccer and American sports cultures. Americans are used to our athletes saying they prefer to beat an opponent at full strength. International soccer culture - the same culture that produces players pretending to be injured - is fine whinging about a guy being suspended for something he didn’t even do to their team.

If the USMNT win, Belgium will have every right to feel cheated, meanwhile the USA’s victory - by their best ever generation of players - will forever be tainted by accusations of favouritism and corruption.
