@BradyBGWX as an addendum i feel like NE tornadoes have way vertical velocity than rotational velocity so i suspect tornadoes here aren’t as rare as we think, most are just negligible weak and non-damaging. What i saw looked like a vortex breakdown halfway between the cloud base and ground.
Would not shock me to see a tornado with this supercell near Abernathy, #TXwx given its proximity to an outflow boundary. Also could pose primarily a hail threat to Lubbock long-term.
Impressive supercell between Vega and Amarillo #TXwx. Very large, damaging hail, strong winds, and a tornado are all possible as this approaches I40. Get off the road if you can, and delay driving on this route for an hour or two.
@Weatherman180@sambrandt99 Do you know what time you saw the funnel? Thought I saw something around 5:09 looking west from 476. Looked convincing but only had eyes on it for a second through the trees. Trying to get more info.
@sambrandt99@voglerweather TDWR data resolution isn’t great but points towards solid rotation. Have a feeling yesterday had a few tornadoish things/funnels that were too weak to cause damage. I saw something around 5:09 on the same storm just before it gusted out. No photo unfortunately. Good catch.
@JeremyCruzWX I will say though the inflow was fairly cool due to the cell ahead of it. I imagine it would have had a better shot at a tornado had those cells not been present. Car was reading about 73-75 in the inflow region and 84-89 elsewhere.
@JeremyCruzWX It really didn’t look too crazy but I think the base was just so LP radar wasn’t detecting it well. At one point right as the updraft started to occlude it really started to rotate hard too. Wouldn’t shock me if there was a funnel around then but view got blocked by trees.
I got to say most important thing I got out of yesterday is the importance of shooting wide. This looked cool in person but so much better looking with wide angle when you can see the whole storm without breaking your neck. #NJwx#wxtwitter
@JoeyAKAFishboy@NWS_MountHolly We got pretty lucky, that part of NJ honestly has solid terrain between the pine barrens and Philly metro. SNJ isn’t bad either. The shoulders of the roads were wide and surrounded by grass too so we could pull off and stop. Went very well.
@BradyBGWX We followed it to Jackson and got this view of the occluding updraft when it was over Upper Freehold. Rapid rotation here but view was quickly obstructed, closest it got imo. There were a few chasers there, not sure if you were one of them but great day. My best chase so far.
