Les Edwards is a British illustrator known for his work in science fiction, fantasy, and horror, with a career defined by book covers, posters, and video game artwork. During the 1980s he worked with Games Workshop creating illustrations for the Warhammer universe, including White Dwarf covers, Warhammer 40,000 artwork, and pieces such as “Confrontation 40K” and “The Lost and the Damned”.

Happy birthday to Barbara Remington, born on this day in 1929. She painted the iconic 1965 Ballantine covers for The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit despite never having read the books. That’s why her artwork famously featured a lion and an emu-like bird, creatures that never appeared in Middle-earth stories.
Despite these additions, her paintings became some of the most recognisable Tolkien illustrations ever published.
