@Egor_Poskriakov not going to add to my wishlist because it's already on my wishlist on the very first moment that I saw this game a while ago. Also, it will be on my library in the first second that this game get released!
Finished the demo for Rain98, @csharp4r4ct3r's upcoming psycho-thriller romance game. Replayed it various times in fact.
And I definitely feel this may be a forthcoming masterpiece, if not in story (since I only experienced the prologue), then at least in atmosphere and presentation.
The demo starts off with the player in front of Reina attempting to hang herself in which the sudden encounter makes her stop (for now). The protagonist, from the year 2025, realizes he was transported to the year 1998 which is prior to Japan's economic bubble burst. Choosing to believe he is from the future, Reina determines the world is unredeemable according to accounts from the player.
She then decides to destroy the world with the help of the player. In order to do so, she needs to gather energy obtained through making memories with the player. With enough memories made, she'll have the power to destroy the world. Whether she actually can, we'll have to find out when the full game releases.
From the materials I was given, #Rain98 will have over 1,500 hand-drawn anime stills packed within a 10-hour-long game. No generative AI will be used. And over 30 different sounds of rain were captured to represent various moods as the story progresses, reflecting how Reina feels at the time.
Reina herself is voiced by Rio Tsuchiya, known for Madoka Higuchi in THE IDOLM@STER SHINY COLORS, and I believe she nailed the role of a nihilistic teenager. The lo-fi music too helped with the depressing, rainy ambience.
I'm greatly looking forward to seeing the full release of this game and I also want to thank @ukiyostudiosau for providing me with a preview build to take an early look!
Vanillaware founder George Kamitani - wants to put their other games on PC (Unicorn Overlord, 13 Sentinels, Dragon's Crown, etc.) but says it's up to the publisher to finance the ports
