If Steam is a monopoly because they dominate the market, I will keep calling Windows a monopoly for as long as game publishers keep unfairly blocking users of other operating systems from playing their games.
“Everyone uses Steam and that’s wrong!”
Well maybe if other store fronts put effort into matching Steam’s features and QoL conveniences there would be meaningful competition.
Valve is a "monopoly", because the users are genuinely satisfied with Steam and its sale offerings. Maybe other companies should take an example from Valve and not to be a bitch.
Asmongold goes off, saying he's tired of console exclusives and that they don't benefit anybody 👀
"There is no benefit for the customer that a video game is locked to a single console. In a perfect world every video game would be playable on every console and also on PC”
Backrooms director Kane Parsons says Valve has been one of his biggest inspirations, especially for storytelling.
“Don’t make it if there’s not a meaningful reason motivating it.”
In other words, don’t add things just because they’re cool. Every mystery, location, or story element should be there for a reason.
Parsons also revealed how much Portal 2 influenced his work, saying: “I frequently have dreams where I’m just in the Aperture Science Enrichment Center.”
I'm sorry dear publishers, but as a consumer I don't want to be forced to use garbage launchers just for the appeal of lower prices. It's an evil marketing strategy, and sounds like: "Hey we know our launcher is complete dogshit but if you buy from us you can get a discount!"
Steam is the greatest gift to gamers. And every other greedy game platform want nothing more than to get rid of them.
Steam is fair, honest, and only cares about customers and developers, not big publishing companies. You can't pay to win on steam, you just need a good game.
Never let them win. Protect steam at all costs.
Valve co-founder Gabe Newell responded to accusations that Steam operates as a monopoly in the PC gaming market
Addressing the criticism, Newell said gamers have “plenty of options” when buying games.
According to him, players can choose from many digital stores, including rival platforms and stores run by game publishers themselves.
Valve says Steam’s success comes from a service that both gamers and developers willingly choose.
We gamers just wanted one good launcher and to play games without the launcher/account wars you and other competitors brought into the hobby because you wanted the same success without putting in the work connecting with the gamer community.
Steam EARNED its spot by building and nurturing a client that actually catered to the PC community with features and social tools when everyone else ignored them.
As opposed to Epic and EGS which rely on Fortnite-funded bribes, timed exclusives, and service fragmentation to stay relevant.
Your cries of monopoly are pure projection and wounded pride after your catch-up strategies failed time and time again.
Tim Sweeney seems to be talking like a saint until you realize he is behind one of the most predatory platforms in all of PC gaming history.
For those unawaye, he effectively pioneered the modern version of "timed exclusivity".
HATE
Rich coming from the platform that wants to strong arm consumers with exclusivity, ultimately damning games to die as nobody uses Epic.
Valve had asked for fair treatment for their customers and not to be left out of discounts.
I'd take that over your "free games" every day.
