Colon (:) introduces something. You usually use it when what comes after is a list, or an explanation, or even a reveal.
An example is βshe had one rule: never apologizeβ or βthis is a list of things you should get from the market: eggs, tomatoesβ¦β
Itβs also used as the eyes in a smiley face :)
Semicolon (;) connects two complete thoughts that are related but could stand alone as separate sentences. Itβs stronger than a comma but softer than a full stop.
An example is βFrank never apologized; he didn't think he was wrongβ
Itβs also used as the eyes in a winking face ;)
When i was at varsity, there was a lady who was a security guard at res, I would normally greet her and do small talk.
I was intrigued by the fact that she was young and eloquent so I asked her about her level of education, it turned out she held a matric certificate with even better marks than me but had no means to further her studies.
I couldn't sleep that night, so the first thing the next morning, i went to admin, got her the application forms for both the Fundza Lushaka busary and NFSAS, by the told her to just apply as she had nothing to lose. And just like that, she was accepted with full funding. She is a veteran teacher today and I've just spoken to her on Facebook after 20+ years of no contact.
Never gate keep anything especially when you will lose nothing by sharing.
My heart is so full. ππ

First borns are really experimental kids hey.
First day of Grade 1, my parents put me on scholar transport. I was the only child going to a different school in that taxi, even my uniform was different π
When all the kids got off at their schoolβ¦ I also got off. Loya malume driver wasnβt even paying attention.
I confidently walked into a classroom, sat down and minded my business.
Then one kid came to me and said, βAsk your mom to buy you the same uniform as ours.β
Thatβs when it hit me.
I looked around.
Wrong uniform.
Wrong school.
I was LOST πππ
A teacher eventually noticed me, recognized my uniform and asked questions. Luckily I knew my dadβs number. My mom had to come fetch me.
Fast forward to my little sisterβs first day of school β they made sure to personally take her. My mom even took a day off from work and walked her all the way to her classroom.
First borns suffered so the others could be raised properly.
We were the experiment. π
