Dangerous levels of heat are expected in the South, West and Midwest through the week. These heightened temperatures can put you and your pets at risk of a heat stroke.

Use this pavement trick to determine if it’s too hot to walk your pets outside and remember these helpful tips:
- Plan walks in the early AM or late PM when temperatures are cooler.
- Take routes with grass or lots of shaded areas.
- Bring a cold towel or water bottle to help regulate your pet's temperature.

Spartina grass is a native species in the Charleston, South Carolina, marsh. When hurricanes and storm surges impact the community, the marsh acts as a big sponge to hold water and reduce the flow that causes inlet flooding.

As severe weather increases and becomes more destructive due to the climate crisis, this is how the @RedCrossSC Green Team is helping to make their community more resilient.

Let’s give it up for our Green Teams who are helping to mitigate the impacts of the changing climate and advance local sustainability efforts across the country!
