A great honour to attend at the end of July , for the first time, a ship naming ceremony , and to have the privilege of addressing the ceremony marking the naming of two pioneering dual-fuel vessels of the Cypriot shipping company Lemissoler Navigation Co. Ltd.

A proud moment for Cyprus, seeing a Cypriot company at the forefront of innovation and the green transition in international shipping.

Moreover, the occasion carried special symbolism: just as Limassol and Guangzhou are sister cities, Cyprus and China are two maritime countries connected by strong ties in shipping and shipbuilding.

Congratulations to @lemissoler, its leadership and team and everyone involved.

It was a pleasure to join last week fellow Ambassadors and members of the Diplomatic Corps on a memorable visit to Hainan Province, where we met with local leaders and witnessed the island’s remarkable achievements in areas such as sustainable development, sustainable tourism, innovation, agriculture, and the preservation of its rich cultural heritage.

I was particularly honoured to speak on behalf of the foreign diplomats at the welcoming banquet in the beautiful Maona Village.

As I noted in my remarks, Hainan and Cyprus, though separated by great distances, share many similarities. Both islands have served as gateways connecting civilizations and cultures since ancient times, and both are proud maritime communities whose history, identity, and prosperity have long been shaped by the sea.

Our visit to Maona Village was a powerful reminder that sustainable development goes hand in hand with safeguarding cultural heritage, local traditions, and the intangible heritage that strengthens mutual understanding and respect among peoples.

It was a pleasure to see Cyprus present throughout this remarkable cultural journey, once again demonstrating the power of the arts to connect people across borders and civilizations.

The evening concluded with inspiring conversations on culture, dialogue between civilizations, and the importance of preserving and promoting the rich tangible and intangible cultural heritage of both China and Cyprus.

Ο Γενικός Διευθυντής, Γιώργος Γ. Παπαγεωργίου @GGPapag, και λειτουργοί του Υφυπουργείου Πολιτισμού πραγματοποίησαν συνάντηση με κινεζική αντιπροσωπεία από τον τομέα του κινηματογράφου, με επικεφαλής τον Εκτελεστικό Αναπληρωτή Γενικό Διευθυντή της China Film Administration, κ. Mao Yu, και με τη συμμετοχή εκπροσώπων κορυφαίων θεσμών και εταιρειών της κινεζικής κινηματογραφικής βιομηχανίας.🎥

Η συνάντηση εντάσσεται στο πλαίσιο της 1ης Εβδομάδας Κινεζικού Κινηματογράφου στην Κύπρο, η οποία διοργανώθηκε από την Πρεσβεία της Λαϊκής Δημοκρατίας της Κίνας σε συνεργασία με το Υφυπουργείο Πολιτισμού.🤝

Κατά τη διάρκεια των συζητήσεων εξετάστηκαν δυνατότητες ενίσχυσης της συνεργασίας Κύπρου-Κίνας στον κινηματογράφο και σε άλλους τομείς του πολιτισμού, ενώ τονίστηκε ότι η επιτυχημένη διοργάνωση της Εβδομάδας Κινεζικού Κινηματογράφου αποτελεί την αφετηρία για περαιτέρω δράσεις και μελλοντικές συνεργασίες.

Εκπρόσωποι του τομέα κινηματογράφου του Υφυπουργείου παρουσίασαν τα διαθέσιμα εργαλεία στήριξης και προώθησης του κυπριακού κινηματογράφου, συμπεριλαμβανομένων του Προγράμματος Μειοψηφικών Συμπαραγωγών και του Σχεδίου Cash Rebate, καθώς και το το διεθνές φεστιβάλ Cyprus Film Days.

✨Deputy Ministry of Culture meets high-level Chinese film delegation.

The Permanent Secretary, George G. Papageorgiou, and officials of the Deputy Ministry of Culture held a meeting with a high-level Chinese delegation in the field of cinema, led by the Executive Deputy Director-General of the China Film Administration, Mr. Mao Yu, and including representatives from leading film institutions and companies.

The meeting took place in the framework of the 1st Chinese Film Week in Cyprus, co-organised by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China and the Deputy Ministry of Culture.

Discussions focused on opportunities to strengthen Cyprus–China cooperation in the film and other sectors. It was highlighted that the successful organisation of the Chinese Film Week marks only the beginning of more collaborations and future joint initiatives.

Officials from the film sector of the Deputy Ministry presented the main support schemes for the promotion of Cypriot cinema, including the Minority Co-Productions

Scheme, the Cash Rebate programme and the Cyprus Film Days International Festival.

The programme of the Chinese delegation included a meeting with the Cyprus Directors Guild.

Delighted to have met yesterday with H.E. Yang Yudong the Ambassador-designate of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of Cyprus, on the occasion of his upcoming appointment.

Our discussion provided an excellent opportunity to exchange views on the longstanding friendship between Cyprus and China and to explore ways to further enhance cooperation in areas such as trade, education, tourism, culture and people-to-people exchanges.

Delighted to have visited the historic city of Baoding last Saturday and to participate in the commencement ceremony of the joint BSc in Civil Engineering programme between @nupac and Baoding University of Technology.

It was a particular honour to address the first cohort of graduates of this pioneering programme - a tangible example of the growing educational cooperation between Cyprus and China and the strong people-to-people ties connecting our two countries. The programme also highlights the international outlook of Cypriot higher education and the importance in supporting academic excellence and international partnerships.

Moreover , the cooperation between the two universities brings together two ancient cities with rich histories and cultural heritage: #Baoding and #Pafos. Through education, innovation and academic exchange, they are building new bridges between our peoples and investing in the next generation of engineers and global citizens.

Warm congratulations to all graduates. May your knowledge, skills and determination help build not only infrastructure, but also understanding and cooperation across borders.
