Hey @TJQuinnESPN !
How many Americans can't afford to attend the World Cup?
I'm an expert in survey research and have been following your reporting. I just published some answers about how unaffordable this world cup is compared to 1994. Reach out if you want!

Most Americans can't afford to attend the World Cup.
I analyzed the Survey of Consumer Finances to see how many Americans couldn't afford tickets even if they drained their checking accounts.

The U.S. incarcerates over 1.9 million people, more than any other country. Where are they locked up and why? See new data: https://t.co/3oFnc4KNlN via @prisonpolicy
None of the work of Ta-Nehisi Coates or Nika Soon-Shiong or the many Israeli people fighting to end the genocide is an endorsement of Trump. It's an attempt to ensure that we do not lose a collective sense of humanity whose destruction would be far more enduring and irrevocable.

Thousands stay in halfway houses daily, yet there are TONS we don’t know about these facilities.
Why? Lack of transparency, privatization, poor data collection…the list goes on.
Halfway houses are an extension of the carceral experience and should be under the same scrutiny.
@PrisonPolicy I spent the better part of a decade learning all I could about halfway houses and wrote about it here: https://t.co/BWHQUSXHlN

@PrisonPolicy Amen @PrisonPolicy.
Halfway houses are responsible for some of the most controversial aspects of mass incarceration, and were the first institutions where incarceration was privatized. Early for-profit private prisons literally modeled themselves on halfway houses.

🚨NEW Report: Probation is thought of as an "alternative" to incarceration. But is it actually?
Well, 1 in 10 people admitted to state prisons every year have committed no new crime, but have simply broken a rule of their probation...🧵

True. But 4 out of 5 people in prison or jail are locked up for something other than a drug offense.
To really correct the wrongs of mass incarceration, the nation must change how the criminal legal system responds to crimes more serious or even more benign than drug possession.
🚨Native people are incarcerated at nearly 4x the rate of white people.
And now, alarming data shows that Indian country jail populations are quickly bouncing back from the lows of the pandemic – and it’s disproportionately affecting women and older adults.🧵
The Attica prison uprising began on September 9, 1971, before being brutally shut down.
Incarcerated people released a list of demands ranging from pay raises to parole reform to better food – demands that people in prison are still fighting for over fifty years later.
Pretrial detention is a public safety concern. It makes people lose jobs, housing & government benefits – life-altering consequences that judges ignore.
How does this leave anyone better off?

The harms of mass incarceration do not just affect people behind bars.
It has far-reaching consequences that drastically alter the lives of far too many Americans.
🚨NEW: It's officially back-to-school season. Unfortunately, researching and learning about the criminal legal system & mass incarceration is not easy.
So we decided to gather resources to make the data more accessible for students & teachers👇
