(ab)normal thoughts, (in)delicately stated. If you're a kid reading this, don't take everything online too seriously, ok? Grownups often exaggerate.
@Irmenberga On the topic of roofs and function - I think modern thatched roofs are incredibly tacky and definitely fall on the botox side of the spectrum. They're chicken wire-ridden high maintenance monstrosities, all hard edges - impractical to the point of aesthetic bankruptcy even
@Irmenberga Functionality definitely warrants taking precedence over aesthetics - but even within the paradigm of maintenance/repair there is plenty of room for variations in aesthetic approach
@LFRedfoot which is still significantly better than completely fake painted plaster moulding or whatever
In enough time, everything becomes a genuine article of its own category, though.
@LFRedfoot I think this points to the moral dimension of aesthetics - some people are affected by the sincerity of it, and some are not.
Genuine period features or weathering are somewhat more charming than recovered shingle, and both are far better than pre-weathered new materials
@Viktor__Reiter I think often (not always) even significant repairs can be done in a thoughtful and minimalist manner that doesn't detract from, but enhances the story of the structure.
When this isn't possible, it's typically because the structure has been genuinely unloved for too long
There's a developmental stage for middle class westerners where you genuinely believe all harm in the world can be avoided, and you get obsessed with finding possible processes and strategies for this - trigger warnings, points of privilege, pronouns.
It's quite a joyful state
@ClickingSeason Tbf the dearth of femininity was real but egirls have already reappropriated pornskirts and the like (semi tragic but not entirely bad)
Are there any zoomer tricolons like 'yes sir no sir three bags full sir' - only one I can think of is 'on god fr fr'
I'm generally a big fan of zoomer tech but not being able to fit a satisfying third is highkey lowkey harshing my flow fr fr
