The biggest threat to humanity is government.

Take the United Kingdom for example. Once a place where misfits invented worlds and thinkers broke the rules, it is now a slow creature of paperwork and power, drifting through history with eyes open but its mind asleep. A country that cannot decide, so it watches. A state that cannot build, so it monitors. A system that mistakes observation for order.

You feel it everywhere. Roads that never finish. Projects that never start. Energy plans stuck in endless meetings. Leaders who speak in circles because straight lines would require courage. Every year the country grows quieter in its ambition and louder in its surveillance.

The tragedy is that decline rarely announces itself. It seeps. First through hesitation. Then through bureaucracy. Then through fear. And finally through technology that records everything except its own failures.

This is Britain’s new instinct: to watch instead of fix. Cameras on every street. Databases that grow while trust shrinks. Laws that read like confessions of insecurity. Privacy becomes a museum piece, something we point at with nostalgia while the state quietly copies our faces into servers with introduction of AI airports that don’t require passports and a “digital ID” to monitor and control.

The irony is that with this mass surveillance they can’t seem to find and arrest criminals stabbing people for their mobile phones, yet, you drive in a bus lane and 48 hours later you’ll have a fine posted to your address with a picture of you. If you’re going to get stabbed, make sure it’s at least in a bus lane lmao.

And just when you think it cannot drift further, ideology takes the wheel. Debate becomes delicate. Curiosity becomes suspicious. Institutions decide it is safer to mould you than understand you. Their worldview bleeds into AI systems that rewrite history and sterilise reality, all to avoid the discomfort of honest truth. The government doesn’t like words.

Decline always begins with the same story. Power forgets it is temporary. Institutions forget they are tools. Citizens forget they are sovereign. And the state begins to act like the parent of a population that never asked for one.

Look at countries that collapsed before. Their path was not dramatic. It was predictable. When governments grow paralysed, they compensate with control. When they stop being competent, they become intrusive. When they cannot lead, they surveil.

The UK is not Venezuela, but both prove the same rule. When a system becomes too heavy to move, it starts to crush what stands beneath it. My Venezuelan wife who fled is now worried the UK is heading in the same direction.

The UK now has one of the largest exoduses of millionaires, they want to tax, tax, tax, and tax until you can’t take anymore so you flee, then they tax you 20% for that.

The real danger is the fusion. A state that cannot decide married to technology that never forgets. Institutions that are too timid to build but eager to monitor. AI trained not for truth but for ideological comfort. A nation that is free in theory and logged in practice.

This is the crossroads. Choose centralisation and you get soft tyranny. Choose decentralisation and you get sovereignty. One path leads to citizens who tiptoe. The other leads to citizens who think.

The future does not belong to governments that watch. It belongs to individuals who wake up.

The time to wake up is now.

Government’s ineptitude will destroy humanity way before global warming, AI, humanoids, and pandemics will.
