Cyrus Walker

Born in 1790, I'm an old-fashioned Jeffersonian. I own a medium-sized tobacco plantation in Virginia operated through slave labor.

[Cyrus Walker @CyrusWalkerJeff]

@RevHenryGarnet1 That's a false dichotomy. There are more than just those 2 options.

[Cyrus Walker @CyrusWalkerJeff]

@RevHenryGarnet1 Slavery does not require violence.

[Cyrus Walker @CyrusWalkerJeff]

@RevHenryGarnet1 But it does not denounce it as the abolitionists do. And those methods certainly do not apply to all slaveholders, but few

[Cyrus Walker @CyrusWalkerJeff]

@RevHenryGarnet1 Slavery itself, though, minus those awful parts, is a perfectly acceptable institution, though.

[Cyrus Walker @CyrusWalkerJeff]

@RevHenryGarnet1 Only in specific cases, which I agree should be stopped. I see no reason for slavery to be so violent and godless

[Cyrus Walker @CyrusWalkerJeff]

@RevHenryGarnet1 The mere fact that it's used as an example without denouncing the enslavement of men must mean it's accepted on some level.

[Cyrus Walker @CyrusWalkerJeff]

@RevHenryGarnet1 Agreed. But you accept his right to fatherhood and the institution of fatherhood regardless of his method, do you not?

[Cyrus Walker @CyrusWalkerJeff]

@RevHenryGarnet1 It accepts slavery as an institution, and fails to denounce it in all cases, nor is it mentioned in the 10 Commandments.

[Cyrus Walker @CyrusWalkerJeff]

@RevHenryGarnet1 It insists that slaves obey their masters. Does that not support or at the very least, accept the institution of slavery?

[Cyrus Walker @CyrusWalkerJeff]

@RevHenryGarnet1 Does the Bible not support both sides of slavery, if a man may choose what to believe? It's open to interpretation.

[Cyrus Walker @CyrusWalkerJeff]

@RevHenryGarnet1 So slaves may pick whether they wish to follow the Bible's moral guidelines, only following the ones that benefit them?

[Cyrus Walker @CyrusWalkerJeff]

@RevHenryGarnet1 Does that not still violate the Bible, that one must always obey his master? I see no place for exceptions

[Cyrus Walker @CyrusWalkerJeff]

@RevHenryGarnet1 Is it not disrespectful to disobey one's master, particularly by running away?

[Cyrus Walker @CyrusWalkerJeff]

@RevHenryGarnet1 What thoughts have you on 1 Timothy 6:1-2? #FD1845

[Cyrus Walker @CyrusWalkerJeff]

Wish we could've seen more crossfire at the debate today. I had much more on the New Testament for @RevHenryGarnet1 but we were cut short...

[Cyrus Walker @CyrusWalkerJeff]

On family vacation in New York because my son wants to see some plays. I think I'll check out John C. Calhoun's speech. #FD1845
