Been lucky enough to get access to a few CORE sensors over the last few years to aid heat prep for races. Can’t say I rely on them solely for executing heat acclimation sessions and this is partly why. Graph from Stage 1 Tour of Thailand today in 38°C.
Sometimes I feel like we’re making inroads to bridge the gap between sports scientists’ findings from the lab and athletes/coaches practicing in the field. Other times we find a sports scientist trying to gate-keep endurance training…
The last study from my PhD investigating the effects of cool and hot HIIT on temperate performance and physiological response in trained cyclists is now available open access in @JSCRonline.

@AnnaKiesenhofer Taking the above into a count will lead to a fairly classical approach of 4-6week blocks with 1-2 hard days, 2-4 moderate days, and 1-2 rest days per week. Incorporating easier weeks between each block to recover + adapt before the next phase.
@AnnaKiesenhofer BUT ensure chronic load is at a point where there is still room to build through your key training phase. If you’re close to your limit months out there won’t be much room to ramp things up when necessary without falling in a heap

I’m big on learning from the top dogs, not just in my own sport but across all professional sports. This time last year I took a leaf out of @JustinThomas34’s book and wrote down some goals for 2024.
As you can see, a lot of them didn’t go so well.

It’s rewarding to tick things off; it’s even more rewarding to push yourself to new limits and see just how far you can get, even if reality gets in the way of some of those dreams. Don’t get so fixated on the destination that you forget to enjoy the journey along the way. (4/5)
