The appeal was made as @KCCAUG officially took over the rehabilitated section of the landfill following a partnership with the Government of Japan and UN-Habitat. The handover comes two years after the landfill collapse. The rehabilitation was carried out using the Fukuoka Method, an environmentally friendly waste management approach that uses ventilation pipes to extract methane gas and accelerate waste stabilisation.

UPDATE: Masaka High Court Judge Victoria Nakintu Katamba has questioned the police officer who led investigations into the 2018 St Bernard's SS Mannya dormitory fire after he failed to produce exhibits cited in his testimony. Former Rakai District investigations officer Goffin Butere, now serving in Kyotera, told the court he could not retrieve the exhibits because the police exhibits store was overcrowded. He asked for more time to search for them. Defence lawyer Samuel Ssekyewa accused the prosecution of being unprepared, noting that the case has been in court for nearly eight years while the accused have remained on remand. He, however, welcomed the acquittal of Henry Taremwa and Dickson Kisuule, leaving Niyo Edison and Mugarura Alex as the only remaining accused. The hearing was adjourned to August 10 for the prosecution to present its final witnesses. The August 2018 dormitory fire at St Bernard's SS Mannya in Rakai District claimed 10 lives.
