Residents of Rubangabini Village in Maaji Parish, Ukusijoni Sub-county, Adjumani District, have mobilised to restore their damaged bridge after it was washed away by floods from River Zoka.

Using locally available materials, the residents have embarked on constructing a makeshift bridge to restore connectivity, despite lacking technical expertise and external support.

The exercise is being led by Mr Daniel Anyanzo, a resident of the area, who says the community is determined to rebuild the crossing to ease movement and reconnect residents to neighbouring communities.

Residents say the collapse of the bridge has caused significant losses, with more than 10 mobile phones reportedly falling into the water. Food supplies and some domestic animals were also swept away during the flooding.

The damaged bridge is a vital connection for residents, particularly those travelling between Ofua and Sinyanya Ferry Landing Site. Its destruction has disrupted movement and made it difficult for residents to access essential services and transport their agricultural produce.

Barely a day after its board approved an ambitious expansion plan which includes the acquisition of eight modern training aircraft and two advanced flight simulators, and two additional aviation training centres in Entebbe and Jinja, the management of Uganda Aviation Academy has acquired Cessna 421 Golden Eagle from Safari Air International, a move officials say will accelerate its fleet expansion.

The Cessna 421 Golden Eagle is a pressurised, twin-engine piston aircraft renowned for its executive transport capabilities, sophisticated aircraft systems and high-performance operating characteristics.

Mrs Yogi Birigwa, the UAA Board Chairperson, described the acquisition as an important step towards strengthening the institution’s capacity and advancing its long-term vision.
