@airindia Your staff understand what you are trying to do. They have clearly bought into a vision. You can tell that just by what they ask and say. Congratulations Air India
@g__j @fllip_flop But all the renewable assets receive subsidies paid for by all customers and the contracts have many years to run. The direction of travel for locational pricing may be right, but we cannot ignore where we are today. Perhaps look more creatively @ TUOS and DUOS as first step?
Congratulations Minister Fahnbulleh on Wednesday's meeting and for the engaging way in which you articulated the change from the previous government's behaviours to a very welcome collaborative approach. I am sure I am not alone in thinking that we really can work together.
Despite the tough inheritance, this Government will do everything we can to help vulnerable families.
I had a positive meeting with energy suppliers today about the steps we can take together to support those struggling to pay their bills this winter.
Along with other suppliers I will meet Miatta Fahnbulleh - Energy Consumers Minister on Wednesday. The sooner we recognise this is an affordability issue due to insufficient income the sooner we will solve it. A social discount/larger WHD could be implemented now!
OFGEM has confirmed the cap on energy prices is going up.
Derek Lickorish, chairman of Utilita and former chair of the government’s Committee on Fuel Poverty, tells #BBCWato he is concerned this, along with scrapping the winter fuel payment, will worsen fuel poverty.
Not just those that have health issues, but also those who live in hard to heat properties due to a range of issues and all exacerbated by a low income. All roads lead to the Treasury, all previous reviews of this old idea fail to stack up without tax payer subsidy to the poor.
@Adam_Grant_Bell Well said Adam, it would also be timely to remind folks how much it costs and that super- conductivity at realistic temperatures, has yet to developed for even a very modest scale.
@NationalGridESO Meanwhile, I watched the Rampion 1 Windfarm (400MW today planning another 1200MW) yesterday just off the Brighton coast, to see it was clearly constrained off! It would be insightful to know the capacity conundrum that created that and what would have solved it.
@theheatinghub Good to see these intractable issues being aired. But Standing Charges to unit rates, and levies to gas, hurts those at home all day - the sick, pensioners, unemployed, and poor in leaky homes. The Treasury is overdrawn. Yes, it would benefit those with/want EVs and HPs.
🧵Here's a thread about an obscure economic theory from a century and a half ago, which is about to become a MASSIVE deal.
⚡️It helps explains why tackling climate change is going to be v v hard. Some say impossible.
The story begins with this building👇
@Adam_Grant_Bell@DrSimEvans@racheljanetwolf @RichHallCA While Chair of FPAG we constantly proposed Taxation. The sick and elderly would be disproportionately impacted if not, and they do not have the capital to change to HP. This winter will be dire and cold for many without adding anymore costs to gas. All roads lead to the Treasury
@neil_fergusson Hi Neil, this data is Utilita’s actual self disconnection data for electricity meters. We have a surveillance process every 5 minutes 24/7 to detect self-disconnection from which we try to make contact and seek to get supply restored by various means.
Self-disconnections are increasing at an alarming rate following the ending of government's energy support - this a red flag for Government that help is urgently needed for this winter. A Social Discount is the way forward and we have the mechanism and process to make it happen
Earlier this month, #EnergyBills dropped slightly. However, 6.6 million households are still in #FuelPoverty. If you're able, then please consider setting up a regular donation so we can help people who are most in need: https://t.co/F3vJzTSCYQ
Energy prices will drop tomorrow, but this coincides with some Government support schemes ending. Our chief executive @adam_scorer says, 'There is an urgent case for using at least £3 billion of underspent resources from recent programmes to help these very vulnerable groups.'
@Adam_Grant_Bell Excellent. But an EV charger + modest heat pump synchronised by TOU tariff to local similar devices in cold weather could well be 12 to 15KW per household. The RTS trials and its evolution in the 80s & similar anxieties were solved by built in diversity. But this is another level
Utilita’s smart meter prepayment data demonstrates the power of digital connectivity enabling financially vulnerable households to stay on supply. Old traditional prepay meters should be banned. Our latest fuel poverty report: https://t.co/ectC5IFHQP
