🌹Keir Starmer served with dedication. Today he did the honourable thing, he put country and party first. I respect that.
Now we must move fast and move together with @andy4makerfield for Labour leader. 🌹
Not just because he’s popular - that he is. But because he’s spent a decade proving that progressive politics can actually deliver: on housing, on public health, on economic justice, in communities that had given up on politicians altogether.
I was in Makerfield last Thursday, I saw the coalition he’s building. Labour voters, people who’d drifted to Reform, people who thought no one was listening. He brings them back.
And to those suggesting Andy is a leader for the North alone, I say this as a proud Londoner, as someone who spent 8 years as Mayor of Newham, one of the most diverse, most deprived, most complex boroughs in the country:
Andy Burnham’s politics - Inclusive Growth, Community Wealth Building, investment in public services, standing up for working people - is exactly what my community in East London, Londoners and this country needs too.
The challenges facing Wigan and Newham are not so different.
Poverty doesn’t respect geography. Nor does good leadership.
Andy isn’t the King of the North: he’s the Labour leader Britain needs in the North, South, East and West.
With nominations likely to open 9th July, let’s unite behind him and get on with it. 🌹

My book, The Father We Never Had: Artificial Intelligence Before and After, is currently in the Top 10 in the UK 🇬🇧 in Artificial Intelligence.
Why? Because its predictions are unsettlingly logical, and they are already starting to unfold.
