Every 44 minutes, someone’s life is changed by a spinal cord injury. This moment is proof that change doesn’t mean the end. It’s a new beginning.
We honor every person rewriting their story during this SCI awareness month.

September 1st marks the beginning of Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Month💫
I’ve been living with a spinal cord injury for 12 years, the result of multiple gunshots to my abdomen. Over time, I’ve realized that no matter how life unfolds, I can only truly navigate it by first understanding and accepting myself.
The world isn’t always conscious enough to embrace who I am. That’s why it’s crucial for me to love every part of myself. This allows me to elevate in this life without seeking validation from those who can’t see beyond my abilities or the challenges I face.
“Love yourself enough to make the world adjust to you.”

Our team is wrapping up an amazing time at the Mental Health KC Conference. This morning we got to hear from @WesSpeaksLife, Founder of @DBNR_KC, as he shared his inspiring personal story, the importance of representation, empowering others through empathy and filling your own cup.
Our time here was full of impactful sessions and powerful conversations about how we can collectively have a positive impact on the #MentalHealth of the communities we serve. We look forward to continuing the work as we strive to make sure that #EveryDayMatters.
Wesley Hamilton, founder of @DBNR_KC, says, "We should approach disability with an open mind, and we should approach [it] with an empathetic heart."

I remain humbled and amazed. Being a #humanitarian is not a casual term to use. It’s a privilege not only to be recognized with this award, but also to be considered as such by my peers. My gratitude is eternal.
A big thank you to @KCPCAwards & @TerrellRay_#forevergrateful

This is just one example of how the fight for civil rights is intersectional and how different communities can come together to create change. - Wes Hamilton
The Black Panther Party stepped up by providing all protesters with hot meals daily. Along with being a voice to amplify the message that everyone deserves equal rights
