#ONStorm #ONwx ⚠️ Growing Confidence in Potential Freezing Rain Event on Monday in Southern Ontario

We’ve been closely monitoring the latest weather models, which continue to indicate a risk of freezing rain for parts of Southern Ontario on Monday.

The data coming in tonight has shown a stronger and more prolonged period of icing, potentially starting early Monday morning and persisting throughout the day. This trend raises concerns about the potential for significant ice accretion.

Currently, the target zone appears to be Central Ontario, including areas just north and west of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). This extends to regions around Lake Simcoe, Muskoka, Kawartha Lakes, Peterborough, and Kingston.

Further north, into the Ottawa Valley, there is potential for a mix of accumulating snow and ice pellets early in the day, which could then transition to freezing rain later in the evening.

If this freezing rain event materializes as forecasted, it could bring hazardous road conditions, power outages, and disruptions to daily routines. There’s also a chance that school buses in some affected areas may be canceled on Monday.

We’re continuing to analyze new data and will release a preliminary forecast soon. Stay tuned for updates as we track this evolving situation!
