@jimbomorrison@TEDchris That is exactly what Turing completeness states. We can do ANY computation that ANY computer in our universe can, we are just limited by our speed and memory.
@jimbomorrison@TEDchris Likewise, the AGI's will use the same computational building blocks circumscribed by physics. We may have never seen them combined in the particular way they are, but they will not be "entirely different" and they WILL be conceivable by us, because we are Turing complete.
@jimbomorrison@TEDchris , it will not be inconceivable to us nor entirely different. It will be made up of the same atomic building blocks and follow the same laws of physics that guide combining atoms.
@jimbomorrison@TEDchris Likewise those conjecturing that AI gods with a different type of intelligence/computation than us are around the corner, have to also show us that Turing was wrong.
Mere conjecture is woefully inadequate here.
@jimbomorrison@TEDchris Maybe he was wrong, however relativity is by far the best explanation we have of those situations, so people randomly conjecturing breaking this law have a severe uphill battle, and can generally be dismissed if they are not offering compelling reasons. …
@jimbomorrison@TEDchris … memory, but the types of computations they do are constrained by the laws of physics in our universe.
The point being the AI’s intelligence will not be radically different, although they will be faster and have more memory.
@jimbomorrison@TEDchris Turing demonstrated that there is a type of computer that can do ANY type of computation doable in our universe. Humans with the computers we create are of this type.
The AI’s will be limited to these types of computations well. The AI’s can/will compute faster and have more…
