At his request, I met with Prime Minister Mark Carney @MarkJCarney today. We had a very frank discussion in which I made it clear that Albertans will no longer tolerate the way we've been treated by the federal Liberals over the past 10 years.

I provided a specific list of demands the next Prime Minister, regardless of who that is, must address within the first six months of their term to avoid an unprecedented national unity crisis.

This includes:

• Guaranteeing Alberta full access to oil and gas corridors to the north, east, and west

• Repealing Bill C-69 (aka. “no new pipelines act”)

• Lifting the tanker ban off the BC coast

• Eliminating the oil and gas emissions cap, which is a production cap

• Scrapping the so-called Clean Electricity Regulations

• Ending the prohibition on single use plastics

• Abandoning the net-zero car mandate

• Returning oversight of the industrial carbon tax to the provinces

• Halting the federal censorship of energy companies

I also made it clear that Alberta, as owner of the resource, will not accept an export tax or restriction of Alberta’s oil and gas to the United States, and that our province is no longer agreeable to subsidizing other large provinces who are fully capable of funding themselves. Lastly, I made it clear that federal mismanagement of Jasper and Banff national parks resulted in last year’s tragic wildfire in Jasper and is endangering Banff, and the situation must be rectified immediately.  

With the federal election about to be called, I encourage all Albertans to get involved in what is likely one of the most pivotal and important elections in our nation’s history, and to support the party and candidates that have consistently advocated for freeing Alberta from federal overreach and the repeated economic attacks our province has faced from Ottawa over the past 10 years.

You have made Canada a playground for foreign interference. You allowed Iran’s IRGC terrorists to legally operate here for four years after they murdered 55 of our citizens in a major unprovoked attack.

You passed laws that release rampant offenders from prison within hours of their 80th arrest.

And what is the result? Assassinations on Canadian soil, firebombings of synagogues, extremist violence against mandirs and gurdwaras, over 100 churches burned or vandalized (with barely any condemnation from you), all for a total 251% more hate crime.

And, while you were dancing, Montreal was burning.

We won’t let you divide us anymore. Call an election now.

Court sides with Alberta: Liberal use of Emergencies Act Unconstitutional

I have issued the following statement with Minister of Justice Mickey Amery in response to the Federal Court’s decision on the invocation of the Emergencies Act:

“Since day one, Alberta has been clear that the federal government’s decision to invoke the Emergencies Act during the COVID-19 pandemic violated the constitutionally guaranteed rights of Albertans and gave the federal government the ability to seize property without due process of law.

“The decision of the Federal Court today that the use of the Emergency Orders under the Emergencies Act was unreasonable and a contravention of the Act. This Court decision reaffirms that regulations under the Act violated Charter rights to freedom of expression and that the Orders infringed upon the rights of Albertans, and Canadians, to be free from unreasonable search and seizure.

“Today is another example of the Federal Court ruling against the Federal Government’s unconstitutional practices. Whether it’s today’s court decision, or their defeat on plastics or the Impact Assessment Act, it is clear the Trudeau Liberal Government simply does not understand or respect the Constitution of Canada.  

“We are disappointed that the federal government has indicated they will be appealing the decision. The unnecessary use of the Emergencies Act set a dark and dangerous precedent, and if the federal government will not acknowledge that fact, Alberta will continue to champion the Charter rights of Albertans and all Canadians.

“We want to thank the Canadian Constitution Foundation and the Canadian Civil Liberties Association, as well as all the parties involved in initiating this legal challenge, for their dedication to protecting and upholding the rights and freedoms of Canadians.

“We continue to review the Federal Court’s reasons and will be prepared to intervene in the Federal appeal should the Trudeau government move ahead.”
